A Pennsylvania mother was arrested for allegedly handcuffing her 11-year-old son to an oil tank in their basement. The Lebanon County Regional Police Department said that 33-year-old Chazzity Candelario faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, false imprisonment, and unlawful restraint.
The department said that officers responded to a call about a child being restrained at a home on East Kercher Avenue in Lebanon.
Upon arrival, officers found the boy handcuffed to the top railing of a bunk bed. The child explained that he had been tied to a post in the basement but managed to escape, only to handcuff himself to the bed accidentally. The boy also revealed that his mother would often restrain him to the oil tank for hours while she was at work.
Candelario admitted to police that she had difficulty controlling her children while working, leading her to use restraints. She also allegedly locked her children in a small utility room. Candelario is currently held at Lebanon County Prison on a $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on January 23.
