Waverly's first visit to the boys state basketball tournament semi-finals since 1970 ended on Friday night with a 58-to-43 loss to Gilmour Academy at the University of Dayton Arena.
Waverly got off to a slow start, falling behind 13-to-2 in the first quarter. Trey Robertson helped start the comeback, by hitting back-to-back three point shots late in the quarter to bring the Tigers to within 13-to-9 after the first eight minutes.
In the second quarter, Waverly battled back to tie the game at 20-to-20. Gilmour Academy however would score the games next 11 points, a run that stretched into the 3rd quarter, and that proved to be the difference.
With the loss, Waverly finishes the season with a mark of 23-and-5.
Gilmour Academy moves on to the Division II state title game Sunday afternoon, the Lancers face Akron St.Vincent-St.Mary.
