Logan Elm 28, Zane Trace 27 (O-T)

For the third straight game, Logan Elm beat rival Zane Trace, this time winning an overtime thriller 28-to-27 in the "Herrnstein Hyundai High School Football Game of the Week" on 94-Country-WKKJ.

The 2021 season opener for both teams was played on a steamy, warm, night at Logan Elm High School. Zane Trace struck first in the annual meeting of the two schools, separated by about 15 minutes drive time from one another, when Daniel Barnhart scored from two yards out at the 6:20 mark of the first quarter.

Garrett Summers and Blayton Reid hooked up for the Braves first score, on a 53-yard screen pass that Reid eluded numerous Pioneers defenders to score on. The two teams continued to trade scores the rest of the way, eventually finding themselves tied at 21-all at the end of regulation.

In the overtime, Zane Trace scored first, when quarterback Ben Nichols scored on a 5 yard run to put the Pioneers ahead 27-to-21. Zane Trace however missed the extra point attempt. Logan Elm got the ball, and two plays later Reid rumbled in to the end zone from 9 yards out to tie the game at 27-all. Jude Braun nailed the extra-point attempt, and the Braves had the win.

Logan Elm goes on the road next week, when they visit Westfall. Zane Trace next Friday will host Madison Plains.
