Student arrested for violent threat on Snapchat

A student at Springville High School has been arrested on suspicion of making a terroristic threat after police say he sent a social media post that suggested a violent threat at the school.

According to a statement from Springville Police Lt. Warren Foster, the student sent the post on Snapchat around 5 a.m. Thursday.

The post was discovered by police who then found the student at Springville High School, Foster said. The student said during an interview with police that the post was a joke and he had no intention of going through with it.

"The Springville Police Department takes these 'jokes' very seriously and tries to act on them quickly to protect the students and staff of our schools and the citizens of our community," Warren said in the statement.

The student, whose name was not released, was booked into Slate Canyon Detention Center for investigation of making a terroristic threat and other charges, Foster said.
