A Ferron man has been found guilty of the charges that he killed his mother and brother. Seth Gordon Peterson, 26, was accused of killing his mother, 45-year-old Susan Peterson, and his brother, 23-year-old James Peterson on Nov. 2 2016 in Carbon County. While he had originally been charged with aggravated murder, a first-degree felony, on both counts, the jury found him guilty of only one charge of that, and decided the other killing was more akin to manslaughter.
Despite capital punishment being a possibility, prosecutors had decided not to pursue it in this case. However, Peterson is looking at a lengthy prison sentence, as both charges carry a potential maximum sentence of life without the possibility of parole. According to documents related to the case Peterson had been struggling with drugs at the time of the shootings, and was exhibiting paranoid behavior.
