LDS Church dedicates new Cedar City temple

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has dedicated a new temple in Utah, bringing the total number of operating temples in the state to 17. Sunday morning President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor in the First Presidency of the church, officiated the dedication of the Cedar City temple, including the symbolic cornerstone ceremony. Church leaders say the architecture is an homage to early pioneer history, and the early LDS settlers of the area.

The construction of the temple was announced in 2013. It is expected to service 45,000 members of the church living in the area.
