Sunday shootout results in 2 injured, 1 jailed

A Sunday evening shootout has left two men being treated for gunshot wounds, and one man booked into jail. Cameron Mullahkhel, 23, of West Valley City received treatment for a gunshot wound to his abdomen before he was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation for investigation of aggravated robbery causing serious injury, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, drug distribution, and tampering with evidence. Mullahkhel had arranged to meet a 24-year-old man who was selling a diamond necklace online and met the man around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The two drove to a pawn shop to verify the authenticity of the diamonds, and upon verifying they were real Mullahkhel pulled a gun on the victim, in an attempt to rob him of the money that he'd just paid the man. Additionally he tried to steal the diamond necklace, a second gold necklace the victim was wearing, and a credit card.

As Mullahkehl was leaving the car, the victim drew his own weapon and exchanged gunfire. Mullahkehl took a shot to the abdomen and fled the scene. The victim was shot in the foot and was dealt minor injuries. Mullahkhel was located by Salt Lake police shortly after the incident. At the time of the arrest he was also found to be in possession of heroin when he was taken in custody.
