Bomb threat prompts WalMart closure

A Sunday afternoon bomb scare prompted police to shut down a Cedar City Walmart as a precaution. Around 2:30 p.m. police were called to the scene of a potential bomb threat at the establishment, after reports came in regarding two men who had been involved in an argument in the parking lot and causing a disturbance. Officers learned after interviewing witnesses that one of the men claimed he had a bomb in his motor home and that he feared someone was going to blow it up.

Police were able to track down the two men involved and managed to take them into custody for questioning without incident. A bomb squad was called to the area in question as a precaution to sweep the area and see if there was anything dangerous. Shortly before 6 p.m. police lifted the evacuation order as no threat had been located in the area.

Investigators say they believe one of the men is mentally ill and that was what led to the belief there was a bomb hidden on his motor home. No charges are expected to be filed as there was no criminal intent behind the statement.
