Mitt Romney is openly looking at possibly making a run for the U.S. Senate if Utah's Senior Senator, Orrin Hatch, decides not to run for re-election, according to some with close ties to the man. Hatch has previously promised that the 2012 election would be his last race, but as the lead up to the 2018 election nears he's voiced interest in running once again. In regards to Romney running Hatch has said he would "feel good" about retiring if the former presidential candidate ran to replace him.
Romney has not commented on the reports being released about him looking into running, but said earlier this year during an interview that he was open to the idea. Romney is widely considered to be the best contender against the Democrat candidate for the Senate, Salt Lake County Councilwoman Jenny Wilson, who has already begun running her campaign.
