Police employee charged with selling evidence

A police evidence technician is facing charges of misuse of public money. The Hurricane City Police Department has announced that Kurt Tanner, 54, an evidence technician with the department, is accused of selling off evidence relating items without permission. The department says that the an investigation into the matter was conducted through the Washington County Attorney's Office earlier this year, and found sufficient evidence to charge Tanner with misuse of public money, a third-degree felony.

According to court records Tanner sold the evidence items, labeled as public property by police, sold through a company on eBay. The majority of the money made from the sales of the property went to the company and was not given back to the public. Tanner has been placed on administrative leave.
