12-year-old boy critically injured in accident

A 12-year-old boy is in a hospital recovering from an accident where he was struck by a car backing out of its driveway Monday morning. According to officials with West Valley City Police, around 9:15 a.m. emergency crews were called to a report of an auto-pedestrian crash in West Valley City. The boy was with his family who were working on landscaping in that area, when a nearby car began backing out of the driveway, striking the boy and pinning him underneath the vehicle.

The driver immediately realized what had occurred and got out of the vehicle to render assistance. Witnesses tried to free the boy from under the car, going so far as to jacking the vehicle up in order to pull him out. Eventually firefighters who were called to the scene were able to get the boy out from under the car and he was rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He was later flown to another hospital for further treatment, and eventually upgraded to stable condition.
