Teens sentenced in connection with officer death

Three boys have received sentences related to the death of West Valley City police officer Cody Brotherson in Nov. 2016. All three teens have been sentenced to terms in a secure juvenile facility, with one remaining there "for as long as possible." One teen was charged with murder, another to manslaughter, and the final one faced other charges related to the incident. All the teens pleaded guilty to the charges levied against them.

The trio was accused of running away from West Valley police in a car they had stolen, then striking Brotherson as he attempted to lay a tire spike strip in the road. Brotherson died as a result of being hit.
