Road reopens after forced to close by wildfire

A road Beaver County road has reopened after being forced to temporarily close due to a nearby wildfire. The Ponderosa Fire began Sunday afternoon, roughly 9 miles east of the town of Beaver. The fire has burned an estimated 15 acres so far, and its spreading forced the closure of state Highway 153 for a brief time as crews battled the blaze. The road reopened Monday as crews were expected to be working near the road during the day.

Motorists have been cautioned to be alert and take care while driving through the area. Residents of the Hi-Lo and the Whispering Pines neighborhoods were on standby in the event of an evacuation. The Ponderosa Picnic Area is still closed while the fire burns. Currently the cause of the fire remains unknown.
