Some hikers going through Deaf Smith Fork Canyon Sunday afternoon came across something they most likely never expected to see. Around 2:30 p.m. human remains were discovered near the trailhead to the canyon off King's Hill Drive. Among the remains recovered from the scene were a skull and some other bones, as well as some clothing. The remains were found at the bottom of an 80-90 foot cliff in an area officers described as "off the beaten path."
Forensic investigators are hoping they can use dental records to identify the remains. Meanwhile, both the Unified and Cottonwood Heights police departments will be going through their missing person records to determine if anyone reported missing was last seen in the area the remains were recovered.
