An Orem woman has been hospitalized and remains in critical condition following an early morning house fire. Around 2:30 a.m. one of the residents was watching TV with his dogs when he smelled smoke, saying he saw "the whole back of the house was on fire." The man's wife, their daughter, and grandson were also in the home when the fire broke out. The daughter and grandson made it to safety, while the man collapsed by a door and hed to be carried out by a firefighter. According to the man his daughter suffered extensive smoke inhalation.
After carrying out the man fire crews learned that a woman was still trapped inside the residence, as well as several dogs. They managed to locate the woman and she was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. 12 dogs were also killed as a result of the fire, while two managed to survive and were returned to the homeowners. The couple had bred and sold Yorkshire terriers for 30 years. It's unclear if the family's cats survived the tragedy as well.
