State Route 210 in Little Cottonwood Canyon had to be closed Friday, after an avalanche took place on a nearby trail. According to the Utah Department of Transportation, an avalanche occurred near White Pine Lake Trail and the mouth of the canyon is closed. Unified police said additional avalanche control was being conducted, prompting access to the canyon to shut down. UDOT says the westbound lane will remain open, but only to allow drivers already in the canyon to leave. The closure is expected to last out the day, during which time no drivers will be allowed access to the canyon.
