Westbound I-80 was closed Monday morning near the Echo Junction intersection after a multiple-vehicle collision left one person dead, officials said.
The freeway was closed just before 7:30 a.m., Department of Public Safety officials said on Twitter. The westbound lanes will be closed until further notice.
According to Utah Department of Transportation spokesman John Gleason, the accident included "at least 30 vehicles."
None of the semitrucks involved in the collision were carrying hazardous materials, according to Utah Highway patrol.
According to Department of Public Safety officials, people involved in the accident were transported to a local church nearby to stay warm.
Details about the accident were not immediately available. The person killed in the crash has not yet been identified.
