Barack & Michelle Obama's Timeless Items To Be Auctioned Off

Calling all Obama fans: Now's your chance to get your hands on some rare items previously worn by Barack and Michelle Obama.

Gently preserved clothing worn by the power couple will be sold at two celebrity auctions on December 4 and December 6 alongside items owned by Michael Jordan, Colin Kaepernick, and Kobe Bryant, NY Daily News reports.

According to the outlet, Barack's high school basketball jersey from his days on the Punahou School team in Hawaii will come with his 1979 school yearbook, which features a shot of Barack in the #23 jersey. The items will be up for grabs at the “Icons and Idols” sports sale by Julien’s Auctions in Beverley Hills and are expected to score between $150,000 to $200,000, according to the auction house.

Meanwhile, a black vintage Norman Norell 1950s gown worn by Michelle at a Christmas celebration at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.in 2010, will then be sold at the “Hollywood” auction, also by Julien’s Auctions, two days later. The gown is expected to go for $50,000 to $70,000.

"The Obamas' personal items ... don't come up very often," said gallery director for Julien's Auctions Kody Frederick. "But every now and again some things fall through the cracks."

In fact, the auction house said that this is the first time ever that a dress worn by the former FLOTUS has gone up for auction.

“In this historic election year, Julien’s Auctions is honored to offer these two sensational pieces from one of the most iconic and revered Presidential couples, former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama,” the auction house’s executive director Martin Nolan said. “From Barack Obama’s high school basketball jersey, that bode his destiny as the future U.S. Commander in Chief, to the vintage dress that sealed Michelle Obama’s status as a fashion-forward style icon, these highly collectible items exude the grace and glamour that the Obamas came to be admired for during their years in the White House and exemplify why they are American royalty.”
