Democrats Wrap Up Opening Arguments In Impeachment Trial

Democrats will make their final arguments for removing President Donald Trump from office as the Senate impeachment trial continues. On Thursday (January 23), Democrats, led by House manager Adam Schiff, argued that President Trump abused his power and must be removed from office before the 2020 presidential election in November.

"How much damage can he do between now and the next election? A lot. A lot of damage," Schiff said.

He said that Trump cannot be trusted to do what is in America's best interest and has shown that he only cares about doing "what's right for Donald Trump."

"You can't trust this president to do what's right for this country. You can trust he will do what's right for Donald Trump," Schiff said. "This is why, if you find him guilty, you must find that he should be removed. Because right matters. Because right matters. And the truth matters. Otherwise, we are lost."

After the Democrats wrap up their opening arguments, President Trump's legal team will get 24 hours over three days to make their case why he should not be removed from office. When their time is up, the Senators will have two days to ask questions.

That portion of the trial will wrap on January 30 and the Senate could hold a vote to acquit Trump the following day.
