Man arrested for firing gun in road rage incident

A South Jordan Man was arrested over the weekend after police say he shot at another driver during a road rage incident.

Arlo Rey Beltran, 31, was book into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of felony discharge of a firearm and aggravated assault.

Beltran and a 28-year-old man in another vehicle got into a dispute somewhere on I-15 on Friday night, according to West Jordan police officer Scott Lift.

"They were going back and forth, swerving into each other," Lift said.

Investigators say this went on for at least 15 minutes. The two cars were near 9000 South and 3800 West just before 9 p.m. when things escalated. "The victim swerved toward the suspect's vehicle, causing him to be angry. The suspect pulled out a gun from his center console and pointed it toward the victim's vehicle," according to the Salt Lake County Jail report.

Lift said that at least one shot was fired, but the victim didn't realize that he had been hit.

According to detectives, the man was hit by shrapnel and not an actual bullet. Before realizing he was injured, the man followed Beltran and called 911. When he figured out he had been hit, the man drove himself to the hospital and was treated for minor injuries.

Beltran claimed he was in Magna and that his friend had his car, according to the report. Officers called the friend who claimed he was in Vernal.

After additional investigation, Beltran was found hiding at his parent's business in West Jordan, the report states. Lift added that a handgun was also recovered.
