State senate approves 'Utahraptor' bill

The senate voted 26-0 in favor of SB43, which designates the Utahraptor as the state dinosaur.

The bill initially would have replaced another dinosaur, Allosaurus, as the state fossil. Instead, the bill designates Utahraptor as the state dinosaur, while Allosaurus remains the state fossil.

Utahraptor, a name that mean's Utah's predator, was first discovered in Utah in 1991 and is the largest species of raptor.

The bill now goes to the House.
