Woman and kids safe after six-hour standoff

A man has been taken into custody for his involvement in a six-hour standoff with SWAT teams while his wife and children were in the home. The event began around 8 p.m. Sunday after officer with the North Salt Lake police were sent to a home on a domestic violence call. Upon arriving it became clear that this wasn't a "normal domestic" incident, as a woman and several children were hiding behind a makeshift barricade in a room and did not feel safe to try and exit the home. To further complicate things the husband, 31-year-old Joshua Briscoe, was in possession of firearms and body armor, which prompted officers to call for backup from local SWAT units.

A hostage negotiation team from Bountiful was also brought to the standoff, and after six hours the children and wife were able to be evacuated from the residence without injury. Briscoe was taken into custody, and has been booked into the Davis County Jail for domestic violence in the presence of a child, aggravated assault, three counts of kidnapping, and criminal mischief.
