Bountiful doctor facing federal child porn charges

A Bountiful doctor already facing several charges related to sexually abusing a minor, most of them first-degree felonies, is now standing accused of additional charges involving child pornography. Nathan Clark Ward, 55, has now been indicted on charges of production of child pornography, possession of child pornography, and distribution of child pornography. According to the indictment investigators are unsure of when Ward began distributing child pornography, but continued to do so until Aug. 16. The charging documents related to the new charges stated that between January and September of 2016, Ward possessed, viewed, or shared at least six images of child pornography.

Ward was initially arrested on July 20, then rearrested on Aug. 4 and held in jail without bail. He was officially charged on Aug. 7 with 11 felonies, including sodomy on a child, aggravated sex abuse of a child, and forcible sodomy, all of them labeled as first-degree felonies. Additionally he was charged with two counts of forcible sex abuse and six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, both second-degree felonies. In the original arrest Ward had been under investigation for conversations he'd had online in which he allegedly discussed having raped young girls and a desire to to rape females and minors.

Charging documents from the state claim Ward sexually abused a 13-year-old girl in 2012, as well as sexually abusing a girl between 2012 and 2015 where he "occupied a position of special trust" in the relationship between the two.
