Bingham High School lockout lifted

Bingham High School is no longer on lockout after two students who stole guns from their parents were taken into police custody. The students attend Bingham High, located in South Jordan, and are from the Herriman area. But, when they failed to arrive at school Friday morning police began investigating the students. It was discovered the pair were said to have gang affiliations and were involved in an ongoing dispute with a rival gang who also attended the school. The two students were arrested around 11 a.m.

The investigation began when police were notified late Thursday evening of a burglary that took place at a Herriman home. The homeowner had returned to their property and discovered that several handguns, rifles, and rounds of ammunition were missing. Police believe that two Bingham students were responsible, including the son of the homeowner.

Upon police suggestion the school operated under a lockout, where the exterior doors were locked but classes proceeded as normal, while the investigation ran its course. It last a little over 90 minutes and was lifted before lunch.
