Man arrested for shooting woman during burglary

A man who is accused of shooting a woman in the leg while burglarizing her home is under arrest. Luis Gurerra-Perez, 31, of Cuba, has been taken into custody for investigation of aggravated burglary and theft. Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday Salt Lake police say Gurerra-Perez entered a house and shot a 46-year-old woman in the leg inside her room, stole several items, and then fled the scene. Witnesses followed him and he was eventually arrested.

According to charging documents Gurerra-Perez was charged in June with possession of a firearm by a restricted person, drug possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia after officers found drugs in his car. A warrant for his arrest was issued on July 7th when he failed to appear in court.

As of Wednesday the woman was listed in stable condition.
