Heavy floods cause power loss in Salt Lake

Flood waters from an early morning storm have resulted in certain road closures, TRAX delays, flooded basements, and several power outages Wednesday morning. After an inch of rain fell in a mere 40 minutes, several streets and roads were turned into rivers as standing water accumulated and flooded those areas. Several schools were affected by the flooding and had to cancel all events held at the buildings that day. Several streets were also forced into closure earlier in the morning, but were reopened by around 8:30 a.m.

According to Rocky Mountain Power's website, more than 850 customers in the Salt Lake Valley had lost power to their homes as of 11 a.m., which was an improvement over the original 1,600 reported early this morning. Scattered showers are expected to continue throughout the day.
