UTAH GOP LEADERS HAVE REVERSED COURSE, DECIDING NOT TO PURSUE A BID -- TO HOST THE 2016 REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION. IN SALT LAKE CITY.

STATE PARTY CHAIRMAN JAMES EVANS SAYS, SALT LAKE MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH HOTEL SPACE TO HANDLE SUCH A LARGE GATHERING.

HE ALSO HAS CONCERNS ABOUT THE 30-MILLION DOLLARS A HOST CITY MUST RAISE...AND THE LIKELIHOOD, THE NATIONAL GOP PARTY WILL INSTEAD CHOOSE A CITY, IN A SWING STATE.

WESTERN CITIES LAS VEGAS, DENVER, AND PHOENIX HAVE ALL BEEN CONSIDERING -- OR ACTIVELY BIDDING -- TO HOST THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION.

THE FINAL SELECTION WILL BE MADE, NEXT YEAR.
