Springdale City Just Days Away From Having to Rework its Budget Due to Government Shutdown

Posted October 2nd, 2013 @ 11:27am by Talk Radio 105.7 FM / 570 AM

IT'S DAY 2 OF THE PARTIAL FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN...SOMETHING THE RESIDENTS OF TINY SPRINGDALE -- JUST OUTSIDE ZION NATIONAL PARK -- KNOW, ALL TOO WELL.

MAYOR PRO-TEM KATHY LAFAVE SAYS, BUSINESSES ARE ALREADY FEELING THE HIT, FROM THE PARK BEING CLOSED. AND BEFORE LONG, THE CITY ITSELF WILL HAVE TO AMEND ITS BUDGET, IF TAX REVENUES FROM TOURISM TAKE A LENGTHY HIT.

MANY OF SPRINGDALE'S 500 RESIDENTS ARE ALSO AMONG THE 200 ZION NATIONAL PARK EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE BEEN FURLOUGHED, UNTIL THE SHUTDOWN IS RESOLVED.

SHE SAYS, IF THE SHUTDOWN LASTS A MONTH, SOME LONG-PLANNED CITY PROJECTS WILL HAVE TO BE DELAYED, DUE TO FUNDING SHORTAGES.
