Police ID Man Suspected of Shooting Two Officers

Posted January 31st, 2014 @ 12:36pm

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office has named the suspect who, police say, shot and killed Sargeant Cory Wride, 44, Thursday... shot and injured Sheriff's Deputy Greg Sherwood, 38... and led police on a high speed chase, through Utah and Juab Counties.

Jose Angel Garcia-Jauregui, 27, had served four-and-half years in prison for an attempted murder charge.

Utah County Sheriff Jim Tracy said he also had a felony charge -- for assault by a prisoner -- dismissed.

The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole released him, though they had issued a warrant for his arrest just days before the shootings.

A teenage girl -- who was allegedly with the suspect, during his suspected crime spree -- has also been arrested.
