Relatives of Ricardo Portillo, 46, are expected to have a big say in whether the 17-year-old boy who allegedly punched him -- causing his death -- is tried as a juvenile or an adult.

Portillo died over the weekend, a week after he was punched -- reportedly just one time -- by a soccer player, who was upset with the penalty he had just called.

The suspect has been in juvenile custody since the incident.

Authorities say he could face either a Homicide by Assault charge -- a 3rd Degree felony -- or 2nd Degree felony Manslaughter.
